It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. How about a thread to show some of our bbq disasters? Could help someone down the road maybe. With that said, I have one to start.

As my signature states, I have a Wine barrel smoker, well, should be "had" a wine barrel smoker.lol

Long story short, I had made this smoker from a wine barrel and used it plenty. Always put in about 4-5 firebricks in the bottom and then the charcoal tray on top. Well the last time I used it I inadvertently forgot to put the bricks in. Had a long successful smoke with it and then removed the food and left open the lid thinking the fire would go out. DUH, more air= more fire. Didn't notice till about 11:30pm. I got up to let one of the dogs out to pee and glanced over to see a glowing pile of metal bands and red coals. Did a double take, couldnt believe my eyes. Sucker must have lit up good while I was sleeping. Had it on a metal dolly with wood and that was toast too. Could not have fallen in a better direction as it only burned the green grass some. Thank God it wasn't near the house or on a deck.
Well that's the reason I built a UDS. I have another wine barrel but she's gonna stay a table for now. Didn't search to see if a thread like this existed so if so, excuse my ignorance.

Looks like you got lucky and didn't burn the house down.

Tell me about it. That was my first thought. The house is detached from the garage where this was by but with all the crap in that garage, the house would've followed.

I don't have any pictures but two years ago. On Memorial Day the family had a big cook at the beach so I took my offset smoker. It started to rain at th end loaded the cooker on the trailers and forgot to strap it down so tumbling down the street it went.

That sucks. Hopefully it made for a good reason to get another.

This is exactly how I pictured EUBANK's reaction when he let the dogs out and looked over at his wine barrel smoker:

Man that's crazy. I love the idea of the wine barrel smoker but obviously there's some danger involved! Wonder what kind of bonfire that thing produced when it was up in flames! LOL

i have one! i always use my WSM on my back patio, but there was a chance of some rain last 4th of july when i was gunna have a party. I have a small front porch that's covered, so I moved the WSM there for the day. at one point I got my charcoal chimney out to light off more coal because the fire wasn't as hot as i wanted it. I lit it off and went inside. a few minutes later I came out to a small fire. the chimney was too close to the plastic furniture that was on the porch and I melted a small plastic table and flower pot.

I had grilled some veggies with an olive oil marinade over the dying charcoal of a day long cook. Forgot that the dying charcoal wasn't vaporizing the drippings and just shut everything down.

2 days later I lit a fire to grill some steaks, walked away to put S&P on them, and returned to plumes of flame going 3-4 feet above my Weber. Apparently a coating of olive oil based marinade had remained on the bottom of my Weber kettle.

It only took about 3-4 minutes before the charcoal was ready to go. This was the fastest I've ever started grilling, but still wouldn't recommend the method!

I have a close call, but could of been a disaster. I fired up my mini wsm that uses the steam tray as a deflector, I had made a fatty using chorizo and sausage with bacon of course! When that was done I did some moinks, while those were cooking I went inside to eat, when I was done my looked out and asked "should it be putting out so much smoke?" I looked out and saw plumes of white smoke!!:shock::shock: I ran outside and dummy me I lifted the lid and fooom I had flames shooting out and the temp gauge was pegged! I wisely put the lid on and closed the vents, needless to say the moinks were done!:mrgreen:

We live out in the country and people burn out here a lot. If someone saw it, they prolly thought we were burning a brushpile.

Well there goes my idea of making a smoker out of one of these:

I actually thought about getting an old trashcan lid like that for a smoker lid. The old school ones were heavy steel and fit a 55gal barrel. Might make an access door for a pizza oven.
