I baught a BB Chef smoker with side firebox from bbq galore and realized it doesn't have a drain hole so it runs down the legs. I was thinking of punching a low spot with a hammer and drilling a drain hole any input?

For a minute i thought you were talking about poobah and it seemed like that would be kind of personal to him

i was never an advocate of the "beat up your smoker club".

I would just put the drain in on the OPPOSITE end from the firebox. No need to make a low spot. the BBQ chef smoker is light enuf that when your cleaning, just raise one side to let it drain. Its also good to have it pitched so the grease drains away form the firebox while your cooking.

Keep the hole away from the firebox or you will be in for a big surprise.

The problem I am having is the juces are flowing down the legs and making a royal mess on the patio. I think that lifting the box side onto a 2x4 and leaning it toward a drain hole on the opposite end sound like a good idea.
any feedback before i "tim taylor" it.

im not completely familiar with the chefs construction, but hows the grease getting out onto the legs? can u seal up whatever opening there is(from the outside fo course) with fireplace chalk or liquid steel?

i had one of these smokers and i'm familar with the problem described. the grease comes out of the holes used to screw the legs to the smoking chamber. i would think plugging these holes and drilling a drain hole where you can mount a can or something would fix the problem.

I am not familiar with your smoker but would it be possible to put 2 large aluminum pans accross the bottom and fill them water? The water will help stabilize the temperature and catch your drippings. It would also keep the bottom of your smoker cleaner. If it is possible, it is alot easier than Rube Goldberging some drain hole.

what is fireplace chalk or liquid steel and where can i get it?

firepace chalk is just high temp chalk sealant and liquid steel is an epoxy that dries like metal. both available at home depot ..
