• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Im cooking 6 butts this weekend on the Chubby G2. Ive been looking and trying to figure out the configuration and how Im going to place them. I will take two racks out and the only way I can figure out how to do this s to use the rack that is sitting right on top of the water pan. This concerns me because I'm wondering if this will wash off all my rub with the steam coming from that water.

I know I can fit in the 6 butts, but am worried about the ones on the very bottom.

Any thoughts?

yeah...its designed to use water.

i have a couple insulated cabinets. never use water in them unless i mess up and my temps get too high. the 6 butts should act as a heat sink. should save some charcoal too especially if you cook at higher temps.

I have a backwoods gater and have done what you are talking about. I didn't notice any adverse effects. I did switch the meat around (top to bottom and bottom to top) after a bit. I didn't fill the pan up to the top, I did about 3/4 of the way and would put more in if needed.

Ok. Yeah I'm gonna rotate the meat after about 3/4 of the cook is done. This should give the bottom ones enough time in the hotter area.

You don't HAVE to use water in a backwoods. Alot of people do and some people don't.

Just saying it's not mandatory. I run my Humphrey's dry

When I used water in my WSM the bottom grate set right over the wp. Never had a problem.

When I had the Backwoods Party, I most often ran it dry. Never noticed any difference. Just lined the water pan with foil to make the clean up easier.

Unbeknownst to be, Backwoods actually offers "Butt Sliders" in their cookers. I recently acquired a lightly used Party G2, and was curious about the extra sliders. When I contacted BWS for info, Kathy responded with...

Yes they are what we call butt sliders.
From the bottom up to the 2nd slider is six inches then from that one the the second one up is six inches then the second one up is six inches. You will have four racks if you put one on the water pan. I hope this helps if you need anything else please let me know.

I have also run mine dry and it work well. Most of the time I do have water, but try it dry if you are concerned about the rub washing off.
