• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I set the Summit up like a kettle and cooked offset for old times sake. Also, I wanted to see if the ribs would cook less evenly (than a kettle) since the dome vent is in the middle instead of off to the side like a kettle. No issues at all. In fact, I may do it like this from now on.

Looks good. What's the advantage of the Craycort grate? Is it the ease with which you can manipulate and add coals?

How does the Que differ from the WSCG to a regular Kettle? Does the Que taste better or the same?

These were some of the better ones I've made but we also switched brands of ribs as well so as much as I'd like to give credit to the few grill, it's a little premature for that. Plus, it's been a while since we've had ribs from the kettle. Fortunately, I've got another rack and a 26.75 kettle that hasn't seen any attention in a while so I'll do some "experimenting" and report back! lol

Full disclosure is that Craycort sent that to me to use in a video I'm working on my youtube channel. I have no other vested interest in that company other than being a customer previously. I'm not sure if that matters, but I feel like I should disclose it.

The main advantage to the cast iron is the sear marks it puts on direct cooks. The second advantage is Rolf has made a lot of cool accessories that slip in and out in the spots where the grates are.

The advantages on a cook like this is the great holds heat well (big heat sink) and gives you good access to the coals on smaller cooks like this. However, if the grate is more filled up with food, than the stock grates are actually better because you can flip up the hinged to add coals without moving the food around. I was just using it because I had it in the grill.

The downside to them is they are heavier than the stock grates and require a little more maintenance to keep them from rusting. Regular use and cooking spray has always done the trick for me. Some people don't like Cast iron grates for those reasons, but I really like the results I gotten in the past. I'm sure these will be the same way, but this is my first cook with this particular set.

That's cool...I didn't know that Cracort made CI grates for the Summit...

I love the ones I have in my 22"...Use them all the time...

Their product page says it's just the same item as the one for XL BGE. Same size / fits fine for the WSCG. I believe their product page photo is actually provided by Baby Back Maniac too ;)

They look killer.
Still drooling on that grill.

Nice ribs no matter what you cooked them on. Glad you finally hooked us up with some pron from your namesake.

So, I gottsta ask, why did you put in the other two quarters? Seems like a half grate would have kept access to the fire open and you clearly did not need the space when just making a couple of little appetizers.

Like in the first picture? Guessing he was done cooking in the subsequent ones.

No reason. Well, more like silly reason...

I had the other 2 in the cardboard box they came in and i wanted to take that box back to the garage so I just popped them back into the grill. Also, at that point I wasn't sure if they were going to cook evenly (first time cooking kettle style in the summit for a smoke) and I didn't know if I would need to pull the ribs towards the middle.

Those are some incredible looking ribs, nailed them for sure.
