• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

never seen this unique brand until today and was wondering if anyone has tried it out ? Academy Sports sells it but not in my area yet and is a pretty weird shape and any thoughts on it ?

What I have bought of their lump has been good. Have not tried the char-logs. They look good though.

Burned limbs. I like the idea but have never seen it before.

I picked up some B&B Oak charcoal at Walmart a few years back - it was outstanding! Unfortunately, never found it again...

I have not seen or used this brand but have used extruded charcoal. Burned well when first used but the leftover coals would crumble too easy.

The pic looks good. I'm going to ask about it at my Academy. Does anyone know who makes it? My local folks can't seem to get any RO lump.

At first i thought they were made out of limbs, but I think battleborn called it. They look like they are extruded/pressed. Id try it if the price was right.

I tried some b&b mesquite charcoal i found at a local hardware store. it worked pretty well.

I found some at a different Academy Sports and when I get out that way in a couple weeks I will get a few bags and review it . I have a buddy that uses it in his gravity feed smoker and he loves it and says there is no way it could bridge in the chute .

So after the binder is put in it's extruded then made into charcoal...

I'm gonna have to look for a bag of it...

my local Academy Sports has this in stock and will be going tomorrow morning to pick some up and try it out but might be next weekend for the test . :biggrin1:

I was using B&B almost exclusively:lump in my ceramics and their all natural Briquettes in steel (mixing at times specially with PBC)

Then I discovered Ozark Oak and Stubbs. They don't make Ozark Oak anymore so I am back to mostly B&B Lump which is fantastic. I just enjoy trying other Lump as well. I personally don't get to dedicated to just one brand exclusively. Even when I had access to OO- Id sample other brands. I've tried a couple bags of the char logs- they are a quality product. It's been a couple years though so you'll need a fresh review on the logs.

One of my goals for 2017 is to not stockpile hundreds of pounds of coals. I've only seen B&B Lump on sale one time. It usually runs 14.95 and the char logs 19.95. It's worth it imho.

I've never been disappointed in B&B.

PS: charcoal is like women "people tend to want what they can't have"

Fortunately Ive got multiple B&B dealers within a couple miles of my hut.

I'm using a bag of the oak lump now. Nice big pieces but they are not as carbonized as other lump I've used so they give off a lot more smoke than I'm used to. I don't know if this is intended or just the bag I got.

It's been a long time since I bought oak. And is don't recall it being over smoky. I usually buy the Mesquite and Hickory lump and I've not noticed what you describe with it. Next up for me is El Diablo which is a mesquite 40# bag.

they show the Hickory Lump in stock also and might try a bag of it too , sounds like some good stuff .

I like the char logs in my wsm an pbc. Nice coal for smoking and light ash production. I do not use it for a searing fire because it seems to take much longer than B&B regular lump to get nice and hot.

Academy has sold the char logs for a couple years in my area.

just got back and opened the bag and did not realize the size of the charcoal logs :shock: I thought they would be a lot smaller and not sure how they will work in the Assassin but will give them a try next week and give a full review and I did also buy their Hickory Lump too and will review it too . I also got to check out the Old Country Pits and they are great quality compared to the cheep thin OKJ that they sell now and might buy a small one and add some tuning plates in the future .
