• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

I'll be spending a few days in Austin TX next week for a friend's wedding. I have likely 1 meal, a lunch, to get away from the "big group" and a few of us want to go get some 'Cue for lunch.

Ok, I want to get some 'cue, a few others will join on the trek.

I rented a car, so Lockhart is certainly a viable option and I think could be a fun side road trip, especially for this NY/NJ boy to say he went to Lockhart.

What makes this request different, is that 2 of the 4 people that want to go with me do not eat pork or beef, and therefore, I was wondering if any of the "classic" cue joints in Lockhart serve pulled BBQ Chicken or Turkey? Don't ask, its a fickle group, some don't like skin on chicken or a bone, etc. If this request cannot be met in Lockhart, what Q joints in Austin would have pulled chicken (but also some tasty brisket/sausage for the rest of us).

Go thru the drive-thru at Chick-Fil-A for the picky eaters then head to Lockhart.

It's not in Lockhart, but Salt Lick in Driftwood has turkey and they also have chicken (when its in season). They also have pretty good sides, for the non-meat eaters.

Ha wish I could drop 'em off at Chick-fil-a....

Thanks for the suggestions, may go to Black's to start, and if I still have some room, head over to Smittys.

make the time to head over to Smitty's... just to see the pits with fire on floor, walk by the huge woodpile....

If it' were me, I'd save half my appetite and eat selectively at both.

good luck...

I just got back from a 5 day trip with my son to Central Texas/Austin/Hill Country.
Snow's in Lexington (Saturday's only) does chicken and if you want to get fancy you can hit Lamberts in downtown Austin for flat out terrific BBQ in a fancy setting. The Salt Lick serves Turkey and should have enough variety for your group.

Thanks all for the advice. Just got back from the trip - we did Blacks and Smittys.

At Blacks we got turkey, chicken, brisket, hatch chile sausage and a few sides and dessert (slaw, mac n cheese, black eyed peas, peach cobbler, etc). The sausage and turkey were our fav, the skin off the chicken was also very crisp and tasty.

Smitty's brisket I think was better, but I can see it being a personal option as Black's was certainly worth the trip to Lockhart by itself.

Re: Snow's - someone mentioned that to me at 2am Sunday morning and my flight was Sunday afternoon, so could not swing another big road trip. We did walk by Lamberts, smelled amazing outside, but couldn't find a way to get back there at a meal time.

Thanks again for the advice.

Next time you are in austin you should really try Franklin's. The brisket to me is amazing. Long waits but I think they have a 5lb min limit for phone orders, so technically you could pick up an order .
