Knows what a fatty is.
So I was really excited to try my first Automation controller and I saw Auber has a controller set up for 55 Gallon drum smokers. I'm a fan of their PID controllers for my brewing setup and figured smoking could use a PID as its a slow to react system.
I got the parts in. Every thing looks well made, nice metal fan housing and has flapper door to prevent air movement when the fan is not on. So I plugged in 225 degrees and lit the pit with all the valves except the controllers closed
Drum was very slow to respond so I opened all the valves and the pit started climbing. But as I was approaching 200 I saw the fan start cycling. Cool! It's doing it's thing. I closed all other valves and watched.... The pit temp dropped to 190. Hmm.
The whole cook was me fiddling with opening valves and setting the controller temp 20 or so degrees above what I wanted to keep the fan running. The controller does have a tuning setting, so I'll try running that and see if it steps up its game, but for now it's not working right.
Pictures to come
