• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Are the FAB injectible meat enhancers worth buying?

I have been reading about the meat enhancers called FAB (and other brands too). Can anybody tell me about these injectables? Naturally, the webpage selling them says they are the greatest thing possible for smoking meats. But are they? If they are, I'm in, but if they are not, I'd rather save my money, as they are expensive as is the freight.

I would think that we have a lot of people here who make their own injectables. Maybe it's better that I ask you what you use to inject your brisket?

take a look at Butcher BBQ injections or Sweet Smoke Q injections. I've used FAB in the past and didn't have any negative results with it, but I prefer those two.

Yeah take a peek around at others as chad mentioned, but they all can be a very nice compliment to bbq. Obviously they aren't 100% needed, but variety si the spice of BBQ :becky:.

I got a pack of Make It Meaty and have tried it on pork spareribs, pork butt, and beef shortribs. I usually mix in about 1/3 cup of the rub that I will be using for every 2 cups of the Make It Meaty injection. I'm guessing it contains some MSG and phosphates. The directions say to not only inject the meat, but also to allow the meat to marinate in any excess injection for at least a few hours if possible. When I have done this, I have noticed that the "marinade" turns into sort of a gelatinous consistency...like from the movie Body Snatchers. I imagine the same process is happening inside the meat, and I attribute this to the action of phosphates. The finished product is definitely tasty, although I've never done a side-by-side test with and without. And it may be my imagination, but I think the finished product had a more pronounced smoke ring too.

+1 CPW. I like them; prefer Butchers.

In a competition where the judges only take one bite, is one thing - but with all the chemicals these injectables have, do they make the meat taste strange, after the first few bites? Do you have any ill side effects after eating a dinner worth of the meat you smoke with these things??
