• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

The Swift BBs at the local grocery store are all enhanced. Last evening at a friends house I saw some cryopacked Swift ribs from Costco in his freezer, which come two to the pack, but the lettering on the plastic is so small neither one of us could read it. The main heading of the message had to do with food saftey I believe. They hide that enhanced message pretty good anyway.

I see that a lot of you get your ribs from Costco. Are the ones you use from Swift? If so, they are not enhanced for sure?

I'll have to check and see, but if he is getting 2 slabs to a pack, I have never seen them in anything but 3packs at my Costco.

I'll check the freezer tonight.

On a side note: what difference does "enhanced" make? Isnt that just brined? Kinda like turkey packaging?

I do know my last Costco bb cook last month came out fantastic.

Just curious, as it sounds like it is a "no no" to be enhanced (or I misread)

Thx

The first issue with enhanced ribs is the added salt content. If you do not make an allowance for the extra salt with your rub, you will get extra-salty ribs. The second issue is texture of the finished product. The third issue is that you are paying on a per pound basis for the fluid they have added

The last time i bought ribs at COSTCO they were not enhanced. The ribs in the cryo come 3 to a pack. The the ribs packaged in the store are the same as in the cryo, but sold in packs of 2 instead of packs of 3. I love COSTCO's meat, but unfortunatlly the butts they sell are de-boned.

No, they're not..Swift has many types...
The idea that any major packing plant enhances all (or any) of any type of meat is kind of akin to...er...naw don't want to start an advertiser -supported jihad here...:)

One bad part about enhanced meat is that you are paying by the pound for what is virtually salt water.
