• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Anyone ever use one of these.....

I'm not a junk collector or anything...but my neighbor was throwing this in the trash the other day. I think he tried to use it like 2 or 3 times, not having much success(too much lighter fluid perhaps?). He said the thermometer isn't reliable(possibly cuz he flamed it?). Me thinks hes a bovine gassing dumb arse. Saw one for sale at Home Depot for $40.00. What a deal!
I've never seen one of these things in action(remember I'm still a rookie). Whats up with that water pan? Do they work? DSC01440.JPG

Heres my baby. She treats me right.

Lots of folx here learned on one just like that. Fortunately, I'm not one of them. Somebody will speak up in a minute or two.

Brinkman

I have one and used with alot of success if doing something small I fire it up and let go adding a few chunks of wood here and there, just fill the water pan full and alway use a charcole starter minon methed there cheap in price but do the job!!!!!!

It was an ok thing when I had nothing but a patio balcony apt. Never cooked anything that I would take pron of, but it did a few briskets. Fill the bottom pan with charcoal, add a lit chimney full and some wet chunks of wood. Fill the top pan with water. Put a brisket on top. Let it go till you run out of fire. Repeat until done.

I have a neighbor with one of those. He was having problems and brought it over. I determined that the gaps were screwing everything. We used some foil between the lid and the unit and temperatures came right up. He uses it all the time now.

Me, too, I guess. I had one 15 years ago. I wanted to learn how to smoke and didn't know anybody that I could ask. So, I bought one of thoe by Brinkmann.
I could never get it to burn longer than a couple of hours before I would have to take the whole damn thing apart and re-stoke the coals.

Since I could not get good Q out of it, I bought a Brinkmann PitMaster Deluxe (like your offset) and started smokin'!!!!!!!!!

So, I guess I am a dumb arse, too. Hey, I call em like I see em.

Now, want I want you to do is crank that piece of work up and spend a lot of money on meat and just see what YOU get.
We'' all be waiting for your results. Good Luck!!!!
Smoke On!!!!!!!

THats the infamous ECB(extremely Cheapo Brinkman). Like greg said, a few tweaks to seal up the leaks and it works fine with some tending. I still have mine from 1988. I think a racoon or possum made a home in it behind the shed.

Hell, I still have one that I use when I go camping. Use the Minion Method and stir the coals every few hours.

I started with the "Gourmet" model...a slightly (very slightly) more expensive ECB...used it up and burned it out. Made some good que on it...the Minion method rules.

I'm intrigued, however theres lots a gaps, lots of holes. It seemed like such a waste tossing it like that.
Oh yeah, I also have a gasser, that was retrieved from another neighbors trash(couple a years ago). With a small investment in new burners and grates from Home Depot, I've cooked more meals for my family than I can count.
Maybe I am a trash collector.

My neighbor has one of those and an electric model......he makes some mighty fine Q in those!!! I run to his house when I see smoke and he does the same when he sees smoke at my house.

I learned on one too, screwed up alot on there, got decent Q out of it but nuthin like when I moved up to the WSM.
Remember tons of porn pics for us

My love of Q came from one of those things. I had cooked for years on many a contraption. Got serious about cooking and started with just that unit (mine was black). $27.00 at walmart if I remember correctly. Followed the instructions from parrotheads yahoo group and made the best ribs I had ever eaten. Found my way over to the Brethren and never looked back.

I have one of those, same color and everything. I have made some really good food on there. I think it works best for something like Beer Can Chicken. And as almost everyone has already said, the Minnion Method works!!

It's all good!I inherted mine from my father inlaw and make really good Q out of it. Hell I can remeber when I was in Belguim and we burned out a 55gal drum to smoke a turkey we welded it with a coat hanger took forever but then it was snowing and cold as witches brass bra we finally got it done not bad!!:icon_blush:

Shucks Neil,
Ya got room to dance out there.
And to try some new recipes,
And to cook for catering gigs.
And to deglaze any time you want.
And maybe develop some new positions. (OOPS, wrong thread. )

I have a problem staying organized as good as you on my little ole' 1.5 acre plot down here

BOT--never had the pleasure of cooking on an ECB.
I have heard both sides--good and bad.
I think it would be a fun challenge to try, and you got in really cheap

Ok.. help me out here.. what's the diff between this red thing and a WSM?

They look the same to me.. enlighten me. :-)

About $200 and 6 hours of cook time on a load of charcoal.

The bottom of the Brinkman is open, the WSM is sealed.
