• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

OK...With all the talk we have been having about cooking wood the last couple of days I have always wondered this... Can ya cook with Avacado wood? You can use every freakin nut and fruit tree pretty much but I have never had the cahoonas to try Avacado. Dont want to mess up any of my cookers.

This happens to be Avacado country here and I can get plenty of it but I have only used it in my fireplace. Burns pretty fast though.

Any ideas??

If it grows fruits or nuts you can cook with it. Avocado would be interesting I'd like to see how it turns out.

Thanks... Maybe I can do a test run in the WSM. Easier to clean then the Lang. Been thinking about this for a long time...just couldnt pull the trigger.

John:

I posed this same question on here last year and did not get many hits! So, I tried it and here are my findings:

1. It burns as quick as pine.
2. It gives no flavor.
3. Burns clean
4. Probably best served for a starter wood for fireplace/pit.

Thats the thing I was worried about...it does burn really quick. That I can deal with if the flavor was worth it. Figured somebody in this neck of the woods has had to try it once. Might have something with the starter wood though...since it burns clean enough. Thanks Steph!

I have a 30 year old Avacado Tree, get aprox 350 to 400 avacados each year. Poor thing's on it's last leg. I"ve tried burning it in the fireplace and all it'll do is smolder. I've been told that it has natural fire retardants in it and it's not good to burn with. I'm sorry, that it was naturally "fire challeged".

That is weird the avocado I had caught fire easy! Was yours seasoned?

I trim my trees between Jan and March, most Avacado limbs are 1 to 3 inches. I burn them the following winter. I've tried it a number of times. Possibly the type of avacado?? Mine is a Zutano (sp?).
