• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Any thoughts on the PK Grill?

I just ordered a PK Grill to replace my old tailgating grill and I was wondering if anyone here has one and what your thoughts are on it. Thanks in advance.

I don't have one but I would assume they are great for two zone cooking.
I been trying to find a used one for years.

I don't have one, but we had one when I was a kid. They are excellent quality, and will never wear out.

I don't have one but they're awesome grills. To me they're an oversized version of the Weber Go Anywhere and I love my WGA.

I say a very good choice.

Compared to a weber kettle the PK grill has the advantage of a hinged lid, rustproof aluminum body, a nice sturdy cart and a superior rectangular shape but it has a smaller grilling area, cant accept a roti, and ashes fall out the bottom vents onto the storage shelf and ground:doh:. I wish PK would make a larger version with side air vents, roti and an adjustable height grate.

My buddy has one ( I want one ) only negatives would be the coal is super close to the grate and the ashes fall straight out of the bottom on to the stand

My dad has one that must be 40 years old. Only downside is cleanup / mess they make while using.

Smoking a brisket on mine as we speak. It is a bit messy if you use bricquettes, not so much with hardwood lump. I have yet to try an all-wood cook with it.

I have had mine a couple years now and everything I have cooked on it two-zone has come out amazingly well. I love the simplicity of it.

I could have sworn it was a Sears-?Thick cast aluminum. Did PK make it for Sears? Both my Dad and big brother had one. It was my first cooker when I graduated from a Hibachi squat-n-cook. Paid my big brother 25$ in the mid 70's for it. I recently gave it back to him. No grates and the vents were ornery. It had never had a cover but was usually under an eve or in s shed. I had not used it in decades and he bought a farm. Looks great next to his Klose 10K custom. :-))
Seriously---- it still looks new. http://barbequemaster.blogspot.com/2008/09/cooking-on-old-family-cast-iron-grill.html?m=1

I appreciate all the responses. I definitely like hearing others backup the longevity of these grills and their excellent 2 zone cooking...

It's very similar. A buddy of mine had one just like the one in your pic. Got his at Sears in Texas too. Made the best grilled chicken ever. He let it go when he moved back to Texas. Sadly I did not get it.

The PK is functionally the same thing. Aluminum box, vents top and bottom, coals grate, meat grate.

You will love it! My PK is my go to steak grill because of the distance from the coals to the grate. It's built like a tank EXCEPT for the stock grate. That thing will rust if you look at it wrong. They just came out with a heavy duty stainless grate that is excellent, although it's a $79 add on. Wait till the stock one goes then replace it with that.

Plus it works great for that Carson Rodizio you need.

A lot of competition chicken cookers and steak cookers on the Texas circuit use them now days.

If you go for a PK, get the stainless grill at additional cost. That thing will sear grill marks like nobody'd business

My Dad had one when I was a kid about 60 years ago and I had one about 40 years ago. It made a lot of ribs, after they were boiled, of course. I think it would still make a good cooker, just a little small.
