• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Any stores near you sell Tel-Tru?

Looking for two thermometers for my smoker build and decided on a 3" dial 2.5" stem aluminum Tel-Tru. Planning on mounting on opposite ends of the door with the end of the probe about an inch above grate height-good idea? -your thoughts.

Looking for a chain store that carries Tel-Tru products-I can order online but that delays an already lengthy build process.

If you were following my 20" horizontal build journal I will update it soon. All painted, just finishing the firebox grate.

Im calling a grill supply place when they open at 10am here and hoping they'll have them but I'm not holding my breath. Starting to think they are online only.

I think you are going to find that because it is a quality product built with higher quality materials for greater accuracy, it will demand a higher price, and you probably won't find them locally at a chain store or box store. Now days people are more focused on cheaper prices to stretch the dollar and in the process they trade some of the quality and some of the accuracy for lower price.

It's like Grandpa who has always driven a Cadillac all his life, he would never consider an Oldsmobile or Pontiac, and would never even think of looking at a KIA.

Bottom line is use what works best and what suits your needs. Sometimes the delays are worth waiting for when compared to what you already have.

Well said, use a Maverick, DOT or something until the right equipment gets there :)

I have a local store that sells them but that don't help you , i buy from Fire Craft and they ship really fast .

That's a really nice looking smoker. You can be proud of that project. Why not try River Country? I have them on my smoker and they work great. They are also not so expensive and the same quality. I have the 3" with the 4" stems. To me, that puts the stem a little closer to the meat. I have 1 on each end, just above the lower grate and one in the center of each door, just above the top grate. Give them a try.

Thank you. I like the way it turned out.

I was unsure about stem length I was thinking 2.5" because if it extends far into the cook chamber you lose space as you can't set any meat below it......if that makes sense. It seems like most guys are going for 4" though......hmmm.

I like Tel-Tru because of the endorsements on it I guess.....Aaron Franklin being a user of them. I've got somewhere between $700-800 tied up in the build (1/4" material gets damn expensive and I needed an acetylene/oxygen refill on expired tanks) so part of me thinks I should be buying an expensive thermometer......but if I can find a river country I would buy it. Maybe ill do a test run of both.

This site always costs me money :)....After reading this I went online and ordered two off their site with the 4" stems...Been wanting to replace my cheap ones and this thread caused the impulse buy to happen......Their site was as cheap as any I found with shipping.
