• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Found a source for FREE drum's, downside is they were full of latex primer

Drilled my 4 intake hole's last nite and started a fire, had it rolling for about 3 hrs. All the paint has seemed to burn off and with a lite hit with the wire wheel takes me down to bare metal....

Should i continue?? As long as i get down to metal i should be o.k. right?
These are the thicker steel drums with great sealing lid's and locking clamp's!!

If you guy's think these barrel's will be fine, i should have a new BUDS..(Bubba ugly drum smoker) by the end of the weekend and will continue with build pron!!

I wouldn't have though that they were used for latex would make a differance after it was burned off. My thinking is that whatever the coating that is used in other drums seems to be fine after burning and I wouldn't imagine it being any more toxic that those.

I vote continue the project.

I say go for it. What can happen? You could eat tainted food and get uglier, Right?...Nah, couldnt happen...

Take to car wash, spray out and continue on. Keep us up to date on build. At least your not a pellethead.

Allright, no negative replie's so i'm moving forward..............scraped it out and wire wheeled most of it last nite, got some pic's but my printer is not playing nice
Found 3 4" caster's that i'll mount to the bottom, had all the nut's n bolt's for the grate support's, found 3 handle's leftover from my offset build, a weber grate from a garbage pick, and a charcoal basket already made for another project!!!
Only thing i bought so far is a 1" ball valve and a couple pipe nipples, keeping it cheap so far!!
I have a weber lid i'd like to use but do i have to cut off the lip for it to fit properly?? Anybody got any detail's on that??

Try not to cut the entire roll off of the top. On my second drum the Weber lid wouldn't fit. I used an angle grinder and some patience to go round and round until I got a nice snug fit. Give it a try!!!

You know what they say....Once you go drum you never go back! Looking forward to the pics.

On my drum( I get it next week!) we used a sledge hammer and regular hammer, placed the sledge on the inside of the lip and smacked the outside lip, like you do when removing dents from a car. Did that all the w3ay around and the lid fits perfect. Nice thing about that way is you can always go back.

Burning mine out as we speak and it stinks BADDDDDD.

There he goes again with the NTTAWWT.

Of course you are a drum head. I'm already assembling parts for my second and third. And this time I will put the castors on first - good idea.

To test for the paint - you might call around to one of the paint specialty stores and see if they have something you can test with?

Did you use a brush on a drill or a grinder? I'm getting one for my pneumatic today.

Ya Bob, wire brush on drill get's me down to bare metal, just gonna take a lil time....wheel's make life easier and get's it off the ground!!
Still working on printer repair so i can serve up some build pron!!!

latex?? latex paint?? if was latex paint , it's usually not "toxic" as paints now are kid friendly

Yes i am a drumhead!!

As i still cannot download my pic's, my UDS is completed and seasoning as we speak!!
Put 5# Rancher in my charcoal basket from my off-set and a 1/2 chimney of lit with some Mesquite about 1:30.
1 cap open and my ball valve 1/4 open and settled in at 235*.......5 HOURS AGO!!!
I am totally amazed at how these thing's run!! Lifted the lid to take a peak and have only burned about 1/2 of that charcoal, temp ran up to 270 from the blast of air and settled right back down to 230ish without touching a thing!!
Will be breaking it in this weekend with something, now to get some more part's for that other barrell!!
