Hello BBQ BRETHREN FORUM! Just want to say HEY and thanks, cuz
I've already learned much from lurking here (and other forums).
I'm new to smoking this year....returned to charcoal grilling last year after several years of gas. Now I've got the smokin' itch!
This spring I bought a used Brinkman Cimarron, circa 2005, for $95 from a guy moving from here (CT) to Texas, of all places. The thing is a tank and holds temps well. I've done some simple redneck mods using available things. Wait- "simple" and "redneck"...???!!! j/k
Bought a used 22.5 OTG last year, which I sold about a month ago to upgrade to a SS Performer for $100. The Performer's lid handle welds were rusted out so the previous owner turned the handle a few degrees and reattached w/ sheet metal screws. When I called Weber to order a replacement, they told me the lid is under warranty (I didn't know the date code sysrem when I bought it). It was stamped DT- 2003. So, I played along.....new lid arrived today. Apparently they don't make those thermometer-under-handle lids anymore, so my Performer isn't true.
Oh well. I'll survive.
Also have an old 18.5, rusted-kettle redhead, which I plan to convert into one of those FrankenWeberPizza LP grills.
Oh yeah, and an old Weber Gasser w/ 3 burners (and the wooden-slatted side table) found for free on CL.
Oh yeah, and a cheesy Sunbeam charcoal grill, another CL freebie.
Ok, enough :blah: :blah: :blah:!!!
Now gotta learn how to post pics.
Oh crap, forgot my question- Will a new kettle fit my Performer? Are they just regular OTG kettles w/ some mounting hardware or something?
