• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Just got off the phone with Tyler at Shirley Fabrication and got the wheels rolling on a 24x42 smoker!!! I will be stopping by their facility in 2 weeks to drop off my deposit. Looks like I should have it by June. Super Excited!!!

i would mail the deposit in. no telling how many people might jump in front of you in a couple weeks. congrats, you will love your new cooker.

Like pjtexas1 says...get the money in pronto. Otherwise, you may be counted only as a "tire kicker" until a deposit is made.

Go ahead and mail the check. But still stop by. It helps to see some in process models and to see Tyler in person. You may get to see my cooker right before I pick it up. It'll be the yellow one!

You are right. I'll be sending in the deposit tomorrow. I can still stop by their place in a couple of weeks to look around.

Congrats. I'm sure you'll love it given what other folks have to say. Out of curiosity what's it running you and what options did you go with with?

The options I chose were pretty basic. One probe port in the body, two thermometers in the door, I'm toying with adding on a shelf 5-6" above the fire box just to have an additional place for wrapping ribs and other cuts of meat. I asked about the 3/8" firebox, but it was going to be out of my price range for that add on since I'm already maxing out my budget. I've been saving money for more than 18 months and I've changed my mind on what I want 2 or 3 times. I had been saving for a Humphreys Battle box initially, but after a week long trip to Texas, I got my mind set on an off set. I then switched to looking at Lang. I was a month away from having the money for the Lang and they raised their price another $200. I then started looking at other options and found Shirley. Their quality is head and shoulders above other off sets I've been looking at, so the choice seemed easy to me.

what places in Texas influenced your change to an offset? i can understand wanting to replicate Central Texas bbq.:becky:

My brother in law and I spent a week last June in and around Austin. I would say the places that got me interested in an off set were Franklin BBQ, Snow's BBQ in Lexington, Tx., Valentina's (an awesome food truck in South Austin), and Louie Mueller in Taylor. All of them with the exception of Louie Muellers uses traditional offsets. I like the idea of the reverse flow because I don't have to fuss with tuning plates to get the temp even across the cooker.
