• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

SLOW with a brush of Garlic/Butter on it.

I will try to find another great one with more stuff but I prefer it the way
I just told you.
SLOW AND BUTTERY

I would say use cedar or alder planks ... perhaps wrap in bacon?

Trim as required, place on rock, sprinkle with kosher salt and lime juice, smash repeatedly with second rock until flattened, discard abalone and smoke both rocks...

By it's nature, I don't think abalone was meant to slow-smoke as a cooking method. Most recipes I've seen called fro rapid cooking. I've seen Tea-smoked abalone, but the smoking is only for a couple of minutes after the abalone has been cooked. Constant basting with butter may work for smoking, but I think you will end up wit something that resembles a wonder ball.

They are so good pounded thin and grilled or fried I don't know why you would want to smoke them?
