• xenforo has sucessfully updated our forum software last night. Howevr, that has returned many templates to stock formats which MAY be missing some previous functionality. It has also fixed some boroken templates Ive taken offline. Reat assured, we are working on getting our templates back to normal, but will take a few days. Im working top down, so best bet is to stick with the default templates as I work thru them.

Ok guys, remember by post about the homeless vet I befriendednd. He's back to work now and I loand him my old 1984 E350 Ford Van to live in temporarily. Turns out the guy is native american and registered as such with his tribe. I verified it. His only possession of any real value is an ancient Cherokee ceremonial pipe and I have it as collateral; but mainly because it's now in safe keeping (with me).

Back on track. He needed somnething to cook on. I gave him my Weber charcoal starter that I never used, a surplus cooking grate off of a grill "side'burner" and a large terracotta clay pot. Plus, I taught him the basics of smoking and gave him a few basic kitchen pans, tools, etc.

It will be interesting what kind of Q this thing will turn out.

You're a hell of a good guy, Mark! Hope everything works out for your new friend! It isn't every day we get an opportunity to change a life.

And I seem to recall one that uses a grocery cart. You're a good man Mark.

Too conspicous. He needs to avoid attention.

I agree, you are due some gooood karma coming your way.

be careful tho.. most of those 'ancient' cherokee pipes are cranked out by the thousands out of old steatite and soapstone bedwarmers since the 1950's and are invariably passed down with a big story about someone or another's grandfather/uncle/brother/etc.. having found it

the repros go for between $50-$250 on ebay all day long.

Old ones (verified through microscopic examination) can be worth $3k-$4k each..

You might ask how I know.

I'm one of 4 nationally recognized prehistoric american authenticators by major collector groups.

Mark and Trout, I use this metode several times a yaer when I want to grill something quick. Start the coals in the chimmney and then drop a grate on top and let it rip.

EP: Thanks for the offer

Randy: Ever tried wood chunks on top of a few charcoal briquetts?

That is just what I do when I am down to cooking for one, and want to grill a steak, etc. The chimney starter makes a great little grill, and the wood chunks give a good dose of smoke.

Gman and Mark are right, toss on a small chunk of a couple of chips and your ready.

How about using a terra cotta flower pot on to for smoking? Anyone try that?
