Checked out the metal dumpster at work the other day and saw this:

crshdrm2small.jpg

At least 3 crushed drums, all on top of the heap of discarded metal refuse. How sad. Imagine the loss of good Q that could have been! Such unfound promise, such a waste.

Take a minute of silence to honor the fallen barrels.

In a effort to midigate the trauma of such an epic travesty, one must imagine that those barrels were the home of toxic waste. When thinking of it in that light, they were not a feasible UDS candidate.

I fully agree with Bluesman but shouldn't there be some kind of Barrel Conservation Foundation or Save the Barrels Foundation that folks can give these orphaned barrels to and save them?
Even a Foster Barrel program, Adopt A Barrel...just something to avoid this unnecessary slaughter!

Don't worry, it was much easier to see the savaged and mutilated bodies amongst the flotsam and jetsam in person. Hint: They're much flatter than you think. I think they held brake fluid and windshield washer fluid. Not all that toxic, but not food grade either.

And to think, just the other day I saw these barrels upright and waiting for a purpose to come along. I... I could have.... I could have prevented this from happening had I known their fate was to come so soon.

I think if you burned them good enough even toxic waste barrels are fine to use....

Ok, McGurk, you live just around the corner from me. I will help you find the offenders and make them pay the ultimate price.....eating my last overdone brisket:wink:

Oh, I know who they are. They were under direct orders from a supervisor, I'm sure. "Just doin' my job."

I'm seeing more and more Upper Midwest smokers coming out of the woodwork everyday. Might have to have a Minne-sconsin brew-haha sometime!

Yep, us northerners like to eat also. But this spring do we dare say our weather has probably been better than most areas of the country. No snow since February!!!! R U Kidding me. Anyways I am still a newbie but have really enjoyed the learning experience. Just purchased a Big Steel Keg that is really getting me going. Pizza, ribs, Chicken and sliders for the daycare kiddies. Learning is fun...and fattening.

I hear you on the great spring, but it did cut into my favorite time of year for ice fishing; pretty much all of March. It doesn't get much better than 18" of ice, sunny and 35 degrees, and a mess of hungry panfish below you! Oh well, there's always next year. Now, let's smoke!

BTW, those are some lucky kids that you are cooking for!
