Take a breath!
So, the wife tells me a local chain has picnics and butts on sale for .99lb. As I had a work related event today I told her to get one in the 10lb range for pulled pork. Since I just got a new pellet pooper I figured there was no better way to break it in after the initial burn. And maybe my excuse for "needing" a new one would get a little back up.
So, yesterday afternoon she returns with almost 40lbs of pork, two chickens - also .99lb, sausage and some other goodies. (See, she called three neighbors and told them about the sale and said I would make it into pulled pork for them.
Also seems she thought it would be no problem to get it all done in one night and they would have it -today. Went to work with some injections and rub and heated up the pooper. 14 1/2 hours - 4 butts and two chickens later I rescued a 6lb shoulder for my event and told the wife "The claws are on the rack - I'd get shredding if I were you - Don't want to disappoint them neighbors"
I did get a kiss - worth the price of admission right there - and a "Thanks babe, I'll pick up a growler while I'm out later"
My new smoker is now safe and since the neighbors like the results she told me she told them "She knew I wanted one and told me to pick it up" I love my wife!
