is Blowin Smoke!
Today I was hunting some new wood chunks for a little Father's Day brisket cook, so I went by the little hearth & grill shop (not the name of the store) where I bought my BGE a few years ago. They are a little upscale, but I got a pretty good deal on the egg.
While I was browsing for the wood, I saw a familiar looking smoker crowded in amongst the gassers, Webers and Eggs. A Weber Smoky Mountain. Having never seen one in person, I checked it out. I was pleasantly surprised by the weight of the lid. It looked really nice and made me want to learn a new method, until I looked at the price tag. $299.99
With tax, that's almost $330.
I put the lid down gingerly as to not scratch or dent the thing, lest I have to pay for it. And then I walked out sans wood chunks. They only had the same bags of hickory & mesquite I can get at Kroger, but a couple dollars higher, so it was no big loss.
Amazon.com sells the WSM for around a hundred dollars less, with free shipping. And no sales tax. When the time comes, I know where I am not going.
Anyways, I ended up at Academy Sports & Outdoors and got a bag of pecan chunks for 4 bucks and change, tax included. Plus, I got to drool over a few nice offsets, like the Bandera.
