I just picked up a 5-6 pound prime rib. I never cooked a prime rib before and I am looking for a few suggestions.
I own a Weber Kettle with a rotisserie add-on. I also own a Traeger Pro Series 34
Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks
back in October I was put on a diet for medical purposes. no fat or cholesterol. period. that means zero meat, a death sentence to a bbq brethren.
well it's been over 2 months and I've stuck to it 100%. things seem to be close to healed so I decided to give a little real food a try and see what...
I've been getting requests for cooks on the gas grill since I started. I figure there might be a good percentage of "normal" (ie non-fanatics) looking for information on how to cook holiday meals in the gas grill. Hopefully some of them will find this helpful.
I went to 3 different stores...

Dudes. Fairbanks, Alaska. Turtle Club Restaurant. Back home visiting my family in my old stomping grounds. This iconic joint is pumping out some of the best eats in the state. If you ever get up here, you gotta try it! Plenty of pics and vid for your weekend...
This one didn't go the way I hoped. I was on point up until the very end and failed...kinda. lol. I don't want to give away the ending but it was a pretty rookie mistake. Fortunately, the video is fun and I think people will get a kick out if regardless.

I was looking to utilize some stuff from the frig and pantry that were getting to the point of expiration. Ended up being some potatoes and veggies. My thought was to pull a roasting chicken or pork roast from the freezer. Ended up finding this forgotten nugget of goodness.
Not a chicken but...
Well the mailman stopped by to drop off a few goodies. Since I'm on this Atkins thing I figured I'd post a couple things I've made that I haven't posted yet.
BTW, I miss my taters, caffeine, flour and rice, but dang if I don't cook and eat like crazy on this diet and have lost 30lbs in a...
This is my first cook post – did the cook yesterday – August 2.
Used plain old Weber gas grill to smoke low and slow prime rib. This was just for three of us so it starts with a small (two-rib) prime rib roast.
Cut off the ribs to cook separately to serve as hors d'oeuvres and trimmed...
Try as I may, I have not been able to find a local pizza joint that offers a prime rib surf & turf pizza option, so for a Brethren Throwdown I decided I needed to make it myself. It turned into a multi-day affair.
I started out with one of my long-time rotisserie bucket lists…Prime Rib...
I was proud to be asked again to cook "prime rib" for the annual company lunch. They wanted the roast again this year. 130 people. My co-worker is going turkeys and quite a few people are bringing in side dishes...so here we go:
122 lbs of Ranchers Reserve from Safeway ($7.99 lb) I took...
I really thought there should have been something like this by now, but for some reason my searches couldn't find it. This time of year there are many rib roasts being cooked and people asking advice on how to cook them. I am of the belief that a rib roast is one of the easiest things to cook...
So a buddy just asked me this and I think that it's so confusing that it is worth posting:
Buddy says, "I want to make a bone-less prime rib what do I buy?"
I told him to get a bone-less rib eye roast. Correct? I told him to grill or bake this bone-less roast and then slice it and it will...
I got this awhile back and aged it for 10 days (I was late getting on the ball - last one I did was 21 days). This is after the aging. It started at around 17# and is now around 15#. This is while I was trimming off the hard stuff that formed while aging.
I hit it with kosher salt, cracked...
This will be my 3rd Prime Rib cook ever. 1st one came out excellent, beginner's luck maybe. 2nd one just was not so great. Seasoned the same with just some "Deep Pit Seasoning" from Montana Bounty Foods and both cooked on the Egg. 1st one came from the Butcher shop and the 2nd from the Grocery...
Yup... she's asking me to expand my skillset... again.
Yup... a late nite snack... just put on @ 6:00 pm EST tonight @ 300*.
Lubed up in EVOO
The rub is a Montreal/Bovine Bold mix... and under the fat cap.

Tis prime rib season, so I offer this great article from the good folks over at Serious Eats. The article focuses on oven roasting, but it's eminently applicable to barbecue.
The one downside of this process is that it assumes that everyone eating the prime rib likes theirs medium-rare. I do...
Saturday, my small group from church finally had our Christmas dinner... Delayed twice. Once for an appendectomy, once for weather. So I had a 10 lbs. prime grade prime rib to cook, and got the BGE going at 225 to put the beast on about 1:00, hoping to take it off about 6:00 pm.
I did a...
