Just finished another UDS build. Totally messed up the charcoal basket!. Diameter is 14" x 6" deep.:redface: I am sure this will still work but probably will not get long cooking times. I am going to give it the seasoning run tomorrow provided the paint dries tonight. Any thought guys?

Certainly not an expert but have been around the UDS block a few times and thinking that should be ok. I've built two now and don't think yours is much smaller than mine.

Can't you just move the grates up and make an extension for the basket?

A 6" basket should be plenty in a UDS. I was thinking of reducing my next build down to 8" (also 14" diameter) because I've just not had a need to fill it. The UDS is very efficient. My longest cook in the UDS has been18 hours on approximately 6 pounds of briquettes.

Mine is 6" deep and I've not had a problem with it on long smokes. I don't even think its 14" in diameter. It works great!

If you think about it, a WSM charcoal ring is only about 6" tall, and I've done sever 12 hour+ cooks on it on a singleload of fuel.

What was I thinking????
