Default Huge loss for KCBS! Jack Gibbs

It is with the greatest regrets to inform our members that Jack Gibbs passed away today. No arrangement have been made at this time. Keep his family in your prayers.
There is no one more passionate about KCBS and BBQ than Jack. He is a friend and a champion who will be missed. Merl

Sending thoughts & prayers to Jack's wife and family. Jack was a real teddy bear under that gruff exterior, with a down-to-earth outlook and the ability to laugh at himself. He was also a very dedicated KCBS contest rep who went out of his way to help me when I was a noobie judge. May he rest in peace.

Wow. Jack was a KCBS mainstay and a really nice guy. For those that watched Pitmasters, Jack was the rep at the Dover contest. Jack has family who live a couple doors down from us. I believe it is a sister in law.

RIP, Jack.

The first time I met Jack was at the KCBS Banquet about four years ago. We were sitting at the same table he was and he had us in stitches the whole evening. Jack was a good guy and will always be missed...

I mentioned this on Facebook... but Jack was spinning yarns the moment he met me at the Blue Devil probably more than 16 years ago. He had fun with HoDeDos, and when I took off on my own, he was the first guy at the Roots festival in 1996 to help encourage the first "solo" contest with my brother in law as Smoke on Wheels.

He was a great ambassador for Kansas City BBQ, and BBQ in general. He was one of the constants in the midwest that put a face to KCBS. I was proud to call him a friend. I know I will miss him! I'm sure the next HoDeDo meeting will be cause to hoist a few in his honor, and tell a few stories!!!

Please keep Carolyn and the kids in your prayers.

For those that didn't know Jack, the first thing I remember is he had the ability to make everyone he was around feel important. A very special man that cared about BBQ. Always willing to make you laugh, help you in any way. I also will hold my pants a liitle higher for awhile. R.I.P. friend. For anyone interested, arrangements are posted in the KC Star. today. Steve.
