We got in last night abt 10pm from FL.... what a fast trip. Drove down in the hurricane rain and wind, got in Thursday and cooked a load for my dad. Drove down to just north of Bartow to my BIL and SIL's house to spend some time and the night before going in and setting up on Friday.

It was great to meet some more of the Brethren, and especially thanks to John for coming down on Friday and giving me some thoughts and help on my pork sauce.... it helped.

Here are some results.

I hope I highligted all of the Brethren. If not, let me know and I will.

Here's a neat fact about that comp. There were not enough teams to make it a Jack qualifier. So they asked a few of the backyard teams to move up.

Congrats to Whiskey Bent BBQ on coming in 5th overall, you would have won the backyard. You guys should just make it permanent and move up with the big boys!

Congrats on the nice calls Bill, I hope you enjoyed your first FBA contest. You can add Smoke Showin to the list of Brethren, and they as well as Whiskey Bent and Team Unknown had a fantastic contest.

Chappy, you are right. Those teams that stepped up did a great thing. And I believe most if not all of them had money calls in at least one category, proving that they are ready to start tearing it up in the "Pro" side. I'm a big believer in karma, and I'm sure those teams will get theirs :)

Thanks, Rub.
I'll take a third overall in our first pro cook anytime. Plus three calls to the stage. We'll see you in Plant City.

Being in the backyard category and knowing the Whiskey Bent boys well, I agree completely that they should move up to Pro!

Congrats, Bill! Great showing! :icon_cool

I had a really good time meeting a whole bunch of new folks. One thing I learned for sure is that doing a comp by myself is a LOT of work.

Did a few things right, did a bunch more things wrong. I got the time management down pretty good and made the first half of the turn-in windows every time. I found that being right next to the bandshell was a HUGE mistake. Never, ever do that again.

Oh well, I said going into my first competition that if I didn't get disqualified that I would consider it a victory. Placing 21st is at least someplace to start. I'll be at Perry next month to see if I can move up at least a couple of positions.

Congrats to all the Brethren that walked!!!

Rub is kinda the Tiger Woods of BBQ now--tough.
Glad y'all had him in Bartow.
We had enough to deal with with Bub-ba-Que in Elba that weekend!

Russ--great to see you out there finally.

Looking forward to Perry, now.

Yes, a good first time FBA.... I already have Bartow in my PDA for next year.... now to improve on what the judges didn't like on my ribs and chicken??????

Well, I thought I would be able to go back and edit that, but it won't... sorry...

Congrats, Bill! Great showing! :icon_cool

Thanks, it was a GREAT event. Can't wait until next year.... I don't even have the trailer unpacked yet, and already I am getting pumped and ready to go...

I'll be taking the time off next year for certain and doing it. Depending on how my work/school schedule begins to work next year, I may even start doing a few more than just the one I did nearly 2 years ago now....
