User: noskos gave me a bottle while visiting from the Netherlands.

Its gin, not vodka.

When the Brits stole the native drink and brought it back to England, they could not replicate the juniper berry properly, so they kept the name and turned it into a vodka recipe that we know.

I think thats the story as it was told that day.

Can you buy the Netherland's version of Ketel 1 in the U.S.? When I go vodka, I usually go old school Stolichnaya. I would be interested in trying the gin version of Ketel 1. Gin for me is in the "green pepper" category. It tastes good, but then I have wierd smelling burps for hours. Wifey isn't usually happy.

Not that stuff. That's genever, not real gin..it comes 'young' (clear)
and 'old' (amber tint). 'Young' is a bit more gusto than most people
care for in life, and 'Old' is not for the weak of constitution. It's
only sold in the Netherlands. Heinekin is one of the biggest
producers (Heinekin beer comes in brown bottles for the domestic
market only, and green everywhere else in the world).

I'm guessing Heinekin goes better with 'que than genever.
