Smoker

Hello Everyone,

I want to buy a small charcoal smoker. What brand would you recommend? I'm favoring the 18 inch Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker. My wife wants smoked meat and she's wondering what is taking me so long to get started. She thinks I'm chicken. I'm telling her that it is 29 degrees out today. What is wrong with that woman.

Great choice and don't let a little cold get ya! Show her this pic and I sure you will have one by the end of the day. Either you will buy one or she will... BTW you are a lucky man and there is nothing wrong with her. Believe me!

Save your money for the meat and go with a UDS. Cost me about $45.00 to make. It is the easiest to operate smoker I've ever cooked on.

If you have lots of time and are handy with tools, build the UDS. Otherwise you can't go wrong with the WSM.

As for cooking in cold weather, check out some of my blog posts from January and February, especially this one as it was done during weather similar to what you seem to have now...

She want's good food, I been out many time below freezing loading meat on the smoker, don't see a thing wrong with her.

WSM is great cooker. You will not be disappointed. Course, you could build a great cooker(UDS) if you are handy with tools and such. By the way, your wife's a keeper!! If she really wants you to get into it.................convince her you need a 18" WSM and a 22" Kettle!

Get to it! There is nothing like the smell of BBQ in the winter. Some of my best cooks have been overnighters in Dec. and Jan.:-D:-D

Weber...but go with the 22.5, you be happier in the long run.....and get you arse out there in the cold and smoke up some grub..........hehe, me who lives in Florida. I did it when I lived in Ohio, smoking in farking sub zero weather............go for that Weber and fire it up! Guy told me when he sold me my boat, "If momma ain't happy then no one is happy!", ain't that the farking thruth......... Cook me some Bar B Q!!!

I agree John!
The WSM is a great little smoker but doesn't compare to the UDS in my opinion.

It will take longer to read the UDS Bible than it will take to build the thing!
I also had less than fifty in my first one, cooks great!
