Default Rectec issues

Now I have had my rectec for over 3 years. We mostly use it as a grill but once in awhile I would like to smoke on it if I don't want to mess with charcoal on my weber's. I have it set on 180 and it's still running 240-250 and not producing much smoke at all besides the pellet tube I put in. I do have the new controller with the extreme smoke button and it doesn't seem to do much. It's only 80 degrees outside and overcast. So that's not heating it up.

I have thought about buying a smoke daddy generator for it and cold smoking but I'm just not sure I want to drop the money on it.

Any suggestions

Has it always run hotter than set? You might want to try setting it for something higher like 250 and then backing it down to 180. Think I've read where sometimes they struggle to hit the low temp from the start. You can also slow down the auger feed rate too if it won't run that low (particularly in the summer) They have a you tube video that walks you through it.

Edit
Found the video on feed rate. It starts about a minute in. Might be worth a try.

Have you called Rec Tec yet? If not, do that before posting, you'll get the right answers quicker.

I've replaced damn near every part on this grill. Used to smoke well but then wouldn't hit the high heat. Now it won't do the smoke part but will do high heat.
We used the grill a ton to bake and everything too. Keeps the heat out of the house.

Body has more rust than I would like and I used their cover as well. I am going to paint it sometime this summer though.
