Stainless Steel Drum Exhaust Help Needed

I'm in the process of building an all (or as close to as I can) Stainless Steel UDS. I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to do the exhaust on my lid in Stainless Steel. I really like the design that BBQSmokerSupply has to offer because I don't have the ability to weld Stainless Steel. This is what I am working with. I would really like it in stainless to complete my project, but BBQSmokerSupply doesn't offer this. Any suggestions or something someone can make that I could purchase. Thank you for any help.

Easy! Just take that picture of the exhaust stack, look up a local welding shop in your area, take it to them with the lid, and they will weld one up for you and weld it to your lid. Or they can make it like the pics and you can bolt it on yourself

If you don't weld then start making friends with your local welding shop!
Just keep in mind that stainless will cost about 3-5x the price of steel, just for material.

That stack in steel would probably be $50-60, but in stainless it could be $150-$250
 
That one they sell would look pretty sweet if you painted it gloss black... and it could be bolted on so you wouldn't even have to weld it
 
Here's my $0.02
The BPS has a "daisy wheel" type damper for the top vent $16.95. It's the type that you would see on a weber lid but it has 8 1/4 in. holes. No welding required.

^^^This^^^ or drill 8 3/4" holes in a 20" circle and use Electrical box plugs with SS machine screws as handles.

On my drums with a solid lid, I prefer to drill 8 holes evenly spaced around the lid. This helps alleviate any hotspots by spreading the movement of hot air across the whole cooking grate rather than having one central location for the hot air to exhaust.

Does it make a big difference, probably not.
 
Thank you for the suggestions. I've been fortunate in that I have next to nothing on investment in this drum, so I have some play room. The drum, and all the S/S intake set-up have been from a scrap yard. I would like to order a hinged kit for the lid and some S/S Spring Handles for the sides. The exhaust has been my challenging part and you've given me some ideas.

You could cut out a flap shaped like the one on top of this,

drill a hole in the lid, and use a SS bolt it install it.
 
Nice looking drum!

I just got the exact same vents for a drum build that I'm working on, except they will be intake vents. I am having them powder coated.

For the exhaust vent, I went with the Hunsaker Smokers Free Floating hinge and exhaust vent.

The design is incredible! Built in handle, thermometer in the stack and able to remove the lid at will.

This can is basically a Hunsaker Smokers Vortex Clone, I love the way it performs. I'm in the process of converting my BPS Drum with this same stack minus the hinge due to the drum design, and my next one is sort of a hybrid Hunsaker/Gateway clone using the Smokerbuilder flanged vents for the intakes.

Give Mark Hunsaker a call and he may be able to hook you up with another color if black doesn't cut it.

On second thought I noticed your drum has the same design as my BPS with the extra rib near the top of the barrel. I asked Mark Hunsaker if he would sell me one without the hinge for this drum. Something you might want to consider. He is very easy to work with.

Personally, I have never been a fan of the daisy vent on my BPS drum. I feel it has too many exhaust holes.

I did one quick chicken cook using the lid off my Hunsaker clone on the BPS drum and the tear drop vent is as easy to control as my Big Green Eggs. I'm ditching the daisy vent for the stack on the BPS

I love the way drums cook and have been chasing down a S/S drum for some time. I've been very fortunate in Chris making this happen at such a reasonable cost. They don't call him the unlined drum king of Chicago for nothing.

Have you seen the Unknown BBQ UDS hinge?

All SS and Jason addresses the drum configuration you and I have.

I don't get it, if it's adjustable how can it have too many exhaust holes?
Seems to cover the entire range - lots or very little.
 
There is SS then there is SS. Will a magnet stick to it? If not, it's the real deal.

Either way will open up different options.
