So, my local Home Depot was out of the Kingsford twin packs on sale. I just happen to go into Academy for something else and noticed their store brand(Outdoor Gourmet) 16.6lb bags of charcoal were on sale for $3.99 a bag. Why not, I got a couple of bags.

Give there B&B hardwood briq. a try. Been using those for a while and have done me right so far.

I'll give it a try. I usually use Kingsford but for $4, I'll use a chimney of it to start my stick burner.

You should be very happy with the Outdoor Gourmet stuff. It's re-branded Royal Oak as far as I can tell. Never had a problem with it, and I've gone through over 50 bags of the stuff in the past few years. I used to get it for $2.99, that was a crazy good deal.

Less ash (not by much) than KF blue, and no "off" flavor. It puts out decent BTUs too. I cooked a full rack of spares a couple weeks ago, the pit was cruising at 300-325, and the ribs were done in about 3.75 hours. Some of the best I've ever cooked too.
