Default SJG Mini built!!

Came home from church and my SJG was sitting on the porch. I'm totally impressed with Amazon because I ordered the thing on Thursday and it was delivered this morning. Got the vasconia pot from Walmart for $20.52 out the door! Not bad the whole cost was about $58.00 since I already had the parts and tools.
I let it run all open to see where it would top out and it was right around 480 and now she's humming along at about 360. I like how stable the temps are compared to my kettle.

Anyone have a suggestion for the first cook apart from the usual fatty?

I'm happy to see mini's being built enmass this summer. It is how I got into this obsession. Nice budget DIY built that performs oh so well.

Enjoy it! I still have the mini I built in my arsenal.

They have them on Walmart.com for 19.00 and mine fit perfect with no leaks so far. They ship it to your local store for free and it only took like 2 or 3 days before I got the email that it was there.

Which Smokey Joe are you guy using? The "Gold"? Seems that might have better temp control. The Gold has more vents, right?

Yes I'm using the gold because of the side air vents. I also made a charcoal basket 3.25 in. tall. She's been going for 4 hours now and still humming along right at 275 with only minor adjustments. That's only because it's pretty windy here in socal.

And yes on the 32 quart vasconia tamale pot. It's a perfect fit on the top and bottom. They don't have them in the store by me but I ordered it online.

This is a close up of the side vents for reference in case anyone who is not familiar with the gold Smokey was looking.
