Default Offset build question ?

Someday I want a good offset or reverse flow smoker but until then I found two compressors cheap. My friend is a fabricator so wants to build one also and I will help him.

These would cost us $60 for both tanks and he can get 1/8 steel for free for the firebox. and he can get expanded metal free. Would this be worth building since it's pretty cheap? I know 1/8 maybe to thin for the firebox but I don't want to put much money in it as I rather save for a good offset. Also don't want to waste all the time if it's not worth it.

Thanks.

IMO, waste of time and money. Save up for a used offset.

That's what was thinking.

This has good reviews but not sure how thick it is.

I'm won't be able to justify a $1000 plus one I want. Unless I would sell my ceramic grill and use that money but I really don't want to do that. The offset wouldn't get used a lot. I use my kettle mostly in the warmer months and ceramic when it's colder. The offset would be used on nice days when I will have time to be around and feed it wood.
