Over the years I've read a lot of threads about what to take with you to a competition and a lot of really good information has been shared. What I'd like to know is what you prefer to snack on either during the time you're cooking or after your last turn-in and before you begin loading. OK, I know, something that goes well with beer, but seriously. If someone, say a judge, wanted to take a team a homemade treat, would you rather have homemade cookies, cake, sweets or something that provides energy and calories to help carry you through the day?

Gotta have some Banana's otherwise I start getting leg cramps before turn-ins are done.
Lots of water and Gatorade to keep hydrated too, that's become more important than Beer to me lately!

Peanuts in the can have been my go-to energy food if I can't find a restaurant close by.

Bananas, Gatorade, and PopTarts. I crave sugar during a comp for some reason.

Does drinks with fruit in them count?

Seriously like the others said, water, gator/powerade to stay hydrated and I usually have Kashi bars or something I can make a quick sandwich out of. Seems like more often than not someone making and sharing something for breakfast.

I drink a half-gallon of chocolate milk on Saturday morning. Ol' buddy Rick Kremer taught me that trick.

I get this Energy trail mix from the bulk section at the grocery store. That and a couple of 5 hour energies gets me through.

Well, during the time frames you mention means for me, starting around 10:00pm and until leaving.

Beer, protein (beef - steak), beef jerky, salted peanuts, good cheese, cookies, water, Gatorade, iced tea, eggs, bacon, beer, water, Gatorade, a few shots of Patron (I blame the 3Eyz guys here), water, iced tea.

Seriously, I stay away from anything with bread, rice, pasta, or stuff that will make me tired. And that stuff will knock me out.

Thanks everyone for your comments. They key to my question was homemade. My initial thought was a recipe I have for an energy bar that has dried cranberries, dried dates, walnuts and oats with caramel sauce drizzled over the top. I think I'll make those tonight to share with some of my friends who are competing tomorrow. Julie
