Default Our first comp Smokin on the Summit

Thanks to everyone on the forum, I've been enjoying reading it the past few months to pick up any hints everyone has.

Our first comp was in Lee's Summit MO this weekend. Got home yesterday and just crashed, and not doing much today. Our results ended up being in the same order as we thought when we were tasting and boxing everything, so that was nice to see. So here are our scores:

Overall: 42nd out of 68

Chicken: 11th
889 998 788 999 889 887

Ribs: 61st
777 888 688 877 877 867

Pork: 29th
888 998 987 688 888 888

Brisket: 60th
787 888 777 766 788 766

We met some good people next to us. We saw a few Brethren banners, but did not stop and talk to them. I was a bit on the nervous side of things, so we spent most of the day around our tent to make sure things were ok and just to make sure we had everything and all that stuff.

We are ready for our next one and will be practicing some more to get ribs better. Our brisket was stalled longer than we have seen in all the practicing so we turned up the heat, so it was done, but maybe a little too dry. Live and Learn.

Congrats on getting your first competition under your belt. That is always the toughest. This was our 2nd competition. It went much better than our first and our scores reflected that. Got a 10th place call in pork. 2 contests, 2 calls. I'm not complaining.

Just curious, where did you get your per judge scores? I have not seen those yet and would like to.

They should be on the front page of the packet you received.

They were with the sheets they handed out at the awards. Also included where we got in each category.

We are thinking of doing a couple more this year but haven't decided. I will keep you all informed if you want to do the same. We enjoyed the couple days.

Contact the contest organizer. Reps give them the sheets that were not picked up. They are suppose to mail them withing 10 days of the contest.

Congrats Stan on the RGC and Big E on your first contest. It was a fun contest but with bars and the train it was an interesting night. We had a blast and will keep this one on the schedule.

Yes congrats Stan. Sure would love to taste GC and RGC food some time. The trains were horrible and the drunks were worse. Had a guy pass out behind us, 2 girls pee in front of us, 1 girl climbe don top of one guy sleeping in lay out chair and started shaking him asking him if he was awake and more boobs than mardi gra..............yep we'll be back next year.

Hoz, sounds like you had a great spot! At least we didn't see anyone having sex in the port-a-potty like last year.

Apparently all the "fun" was happening away from us. We were near the far west end of 3rd street. It was fairly quiet all night, just a couple drunks, but that was it.
