are there any tricks or specific ways to build counter weights for doors.. I will need something after I get the shelf built in front of the cooker. Here's a picture of my setup so far. The first pic is old, but a good close up of the door setup.

Nobody? I've done pretty good so far, but stuck on this. I've googled and googled, and still not sure what to do.

All I can suggest is to look at a few of the websites of the higher quality pit builders to see their proportionate size, placement and design
 
Here is how I did mine. For me it was trial and error for length
and weight in the building process.:idea:
