^^^^^^Believe me they were! Not complaining or anything but they were all over the place. I told the kids to compare it to gettin graded on the curve. Example pork appearance98998....6..WTF???? OH well. I was just curious if it's from different cbj classes or somthin. I about sh!t after we won and I looked at the score sheet.....635... really! Makes me wonder if the best team won................I don't know.....but I'll take it.

Jan,

Never mind how odd the scores were...You guys did great, and it was great having you as a neighbor! Please tell Linda and the rest of your family how great it was having you as last minute neighbors, and give Muffin a scratch for us! Your GC was well deserved. Congrats to everyone else who walked as well.

This was a contest of firsts for us....a missed turn in (by abou 30 seconds. Still wondering how that happened, as I'd actually had our clock set to a minute faster than the reps was at the cooks meeting. Diane was baffled also, as she got back to our site, with our clock still reading 12:05, but said the official clock was at 2:06. First time I've seen her cry at a comp. Kind of set the pace for the rest of our day I guess. And then DAL ribs??? They weren't our best, but they were tender, cooked to the KCBS "standard" (bite came off clean, bone dried instantly, and they tasted pretty damn good, as evidenced by how soon the leftovers (about 4 slabs worth) disappeared at our site. We had 8 visitors, but they all came back for seconds) Oh well, wasn't our day I guess!

Quite a flip from 1st pork, 6th brisket, and middle of the pack ribs and chicken last year.

But in the end, we came out of it with a lock on a wedding catering gig at a Traverse City based resort next summer, and wer humbled to be elected the winner of the events' "spirit" award. I guess all those shot fairy rounds helped :-). We also had a great week with our freinds in Escanaba, and an overall positive week!

Truly though the entire event staff was GREAT! Tony and Anita, we met you last year, but didn't get to talk as much. This year, your kindness and generosity awed us. John, you and your whole team did an excellent job, especially given all the behing the scenes drama that you told me about.

If there is any way we can make it back next year, we plan to.

Thanks to the Chefs Gone Grillin' team for hosting the 9:22. Was great to meet Coz, and all the rest of the brethren in attendance.

We just got home about 10:30 last night, so I'll try and get some photos and the award ceremony video uploaded as soon as I'm able.

Oh well, time to figure out where and when our next one will be.

As they say, "any given day, any given table" Just wasn't our day I guess.

Congrats to Fowl Butt and Bavarian Smoke for their performances .Well Done! It was sure a wierd set of scores for sure but I was watching the judges coming in and see many of the same judges we normally see. So we just move on to the next event . This is one of our favorite comps and we will return next year. And I will bring my new fancy hat back.

Daisy and I would like to congratulate all of the teams. An organizer couldn't ask for a better bunch. We are blessed to have the staff that we have, and to have the teams and judges that participate. We have a saying about that UP Hog Wild spirit.... and we see it displayed in some of the most wonderful ways. One of the local teams usually finds a way to return part or all of the winnings to help support our charity. We are very grateful for that. But we are also grateful for the patience and friendship displayed by our teams. We have a very small staff, and a lot going on at our event. We hope that everyone leaves feeling that same great spirit of the joy of barbeque and the knowledge that we do it for a very great cause. Thanks to all.

For those not in attendance, a few photos.

Here's Coz at the 9:22 stylin in his hat

And taking a walk in it...

And here's Jan, Linda, and family. The happy GC's, not sure why the right side is a little blurry

and finally a shot of a DAL rib box 665 966 666 855 655 976 No comment cards, not sure of thier thoughts
I do admit, the lettuce is a bit sloppy, plus the heat got to it some.

I have the awards on video, and will try and get them up on youtube and post links a little later
