Anyone have experience making your own lump charcoal in a kamado grill?

I've seen methods including open fire and steel drums. Not my thing.

But I do have my Big Joe!

Thanks in advance . . .

I've watched a few of the utubes on making it. There are vids using a retort, open burn methods and a few others. I really like the idea of making my own.
I can see once I'm retired spending some time doing this, but for the moment just don't have enough hours in the day.
FWIW, the open burn method seems the easiest and would require the least investment (time and $$) to start.
