Did my 888 mile round trip yesterday to NC to pick up a barely used, 1 year old, Humphrey's Weekender.

What would be the preferred lighting method? MAP torch, cubes, lit coals? I'll be running it natural, I don't want to rely on a bellows.

Here it is.

When I had my vault I filled entire pan with lump leaving closest corner to air opening empty. I would light half a chimney and while it was catching I would take a weed burner to inside to preheat all the metal. Once done I would dump coals in open corner and seal it up

I ran mine on a bbq guru and this method worked extremely well for me. You can do same with air damper

I was going to say the same as Joe, it looks like you already had a spot picked out for it. Nice addition to the family!

Congratulations Matt.

Looking forward to seeing pictures of your first cook with it.

When I light my Down East Beast, a much larger Humphreys; I fill the tray with charcoal intermingled with wood chunks, leaving a small pocket in the front. Start 8 - 10 briquettes in a charcoal chimney until completely orange, and then fill the pocket with them. 20 - 30 minutes and you are up to temperature ready to go. I also use a BBQ-GURU "Digi-Q". Runs like a champ completely unattended, no remotes.

Great score! I'm hoping someday to find one in East Texas.

For lighting things like that, I'm a big fan of the chimney full of charcoal for the starter. A bit of newspaper/junkmail and a handful of briquettes works very well for me. I've been known to throw a stick or two on top to provide a start as well.

That's a sweet find! I look forward to your future adventures with the new rig.

That's a long drive to pick up a smoker...
It must have been one heck of a price :thumb:

I done stole it. The guy got it 12 months ago and paid about $2300 for everything, I gave him $800.

Looks a great toy mate, that's about a return trip to Sydney for me

Thanks mate. Equivalent of driving from Melbourne to about Coffs Harbour one way.

Actually, I'm just going to go with a 1/2 chimney in the back. I test drove it yesterday and it worked quite well.
