How do you guys best like your hotdogs cooked ? Charcoal Grilled , Steamed , Boiled , Flat Top Grilled , split down the middle , spiral cut ???? have I missed any ? It seems that Hebrew National and Sabretts have the edge, but which way do they taste better ? What do you like ?
 
You forgot the Ripper..... bacon wrapped and deep fried.

I don't care for grilled unless they pay strict attention to the cooking process - nothing worse than a burnt dog IMHO. Boiled is okay but lately sauteing in butter works well for me.
 
I like charcoal and boiled, corn dogs are good too. I've been toying with the idea of vending dogs either by cart or trailer at fairs and whatnot. Low over head in dogs, buns, mustard, onions and relish. At the end of the day what is not consumed you put in the frig for the next day, minus the dogs of course.
 
Grilled (usually on gasser) with chili, cheese, slaw, onion and mustard.

Also like them wrapped in a crescent roll baked in the oven served with ketchup.
 
Pretty much any way.
But not every day.

My (our) preference are Hebrew National Brand.
But I like a place called Cupids as well. There is something about Cupids Hot Dogs that give them a certain "Snap" when you bite them.

Just don't let your imagination run away with you, thinking about what might be in one....
 
Hebrew National, grilled over charcoal/mesquite. Store brand white bun, yellow mustard, diced white onion, sweet relish.

Though...my friend recently introduced me to proper bratwurst (legit German stuff bought from some international store) dressed with sauerkraut and coarse deli mustard. Though technically not a "hot dog", that was a game changer.
 
I eat them once (maybe twice) a year. i.e. grilled on July 4. Otherwise, I can't get over the probable ingredients such as chicken lips and other unsavory ones.

Costco dogs and/or polish prepped with one of these, cooked on the gasser and placed into a cheap white bun with mustard, mayo, chopped onions, banana peppers and, yes, ketchup!
Great summer time eats for days by the pool with the little ones.
 
We've got a local store that makes and sells their own hot dogs and they are really good (not cheap though). If you have a local butcher or sausage maker it's worth trying their products.

BTW, if you are an adult and you still put ketchup on your dog...your not a real adult.
 
Love them cooked anyway, but grilled (gas or charcoal) is the best. However, a hot dog is not worth eating without good chili. A bonus to add with the chili is jalapeno pimento cheese (you can thank me later).
 
Zweigels natural casing pop open red hots and white hots, grilled over charcoal.

NO KETCHUP!!!!!!!

Mustard, chopped onions, and hot sauce (meat sauce), with dill relish optional.

Oh, and NO KETCHUP.
 
I generally will spiral cut them and either grill or griddle them. When I skewer them I only score them in 6 or 8 spots. I almost always season with a bit of celery seed (not celery salt), so the spiral or scores help hold that. For natural cased dogs, i don't spiral or score.... I want that real 'snap'.
