Competition Chicken Question
Hi,
What do you use to lift your sauced chicken thighs from the rack into the competition box for presentation to the judges? I need something that won't smudge the sauce or damage the chicken. Thanks, Alan |

You could try a chicken hook (Pigtail) like the one below.
http://www.thebbqsuperstore.com/prod...jc-acc-a09.htm I just used a gloved hand, fore finger and thumb, and pick them up by the ends of the thigh.

We have used plastic disposable forks and broke a couple of prongs out of each, used one on each end. We use the pig tail for dipping in sauce

I saw a team post a video on Facebook recently that used corn on the cob holders

We tried those they were too short for us and the prongs were too close together, wider prongs gave us more stability when moving sensitive chicken around :)

I use a long stainless steel Pom Tong. The long tong allow me to pick up length wise and the pointed ends will grip the thigh just below the bone but not tough the side or top.
I've used the pig tail but found that juice from the chicken would leak out of the hole it created and I would have a drip trail where the juice ran off the side. It really did not look good. Here are the tongs I use: https://www.webstaurantstore.com/9-s...xoCMfcQAvD_BwE Last edited by egorham; 05-03-2019 at 09:21 AM.. |

We used a gloved hand. Just make sure to dip your fingers in sauce before handling
