Default Recommendation Request?

Wonder if anyone could recommend the best compromise of size and quality for an offset smoker. I have a new (Weber, upright, bullet) water-smoker that actually does a nice job, but now that my old CharBroil is going belly up, I DO want to replace it with a good offset smoker that won't take up my ENTIRE patio. I'd REALLY like to find a welder in the (Chicago) area to help me put together a smoker I have the plans for in my head, but (until that happens) I'd like to know what the best (on the smaller side, and keeping the budget reasonable!) offset smoker might be?

I would recommend one of these pictured in this video at 00:24 seconds. It is an "Old Country" make of pit, I believe he purchased from Academy. I also believe at one time, these pits were made in Mexico. I like this design because the exhaust is at grate level. Good luck.

Thanks, I just tried to edit after I doubled checked the classified ad but the thread crashed for me.

New to the group, could someone point me in the right direction? I have no objection to a used smoker if it's a good one!

Try this search engine for Craigslist. Plug in your zip code and what you are looking for. Good luck.

It's only new until the first cook. ;)

An offset is a pretty simple machine. As long as the original build quality is good and the pit wasn't abused, a 20 year old smoker works exactly as well as one that was built last Tuesday.

You will definitely get more value buying used as long as you shop carefully.
