That performer Silver is kinda' cool. Nice an compact, but it still has some table space. It would be a good alternative to an OTG for people with limited space.

Jumbo Joe is tempting as I already have an 18.5" stacker that I use on my WSM sometimes.

I'm looking forward to the Jumbo Joe. I've used my SJS a lot and the larger size will be nice to add a few more things to cook at the same time instead of doing veggies first and then meat, etc. There are times when the SJ is a bit too small and the Performer is a bit bigger than needed for some cooks. Of course I could use my 18.5" three wheeler instead. But that would be rational and I am looking for any reason to buy another grill.

So a Jumbo Joe it is. I already have a Performer with the gas assist so no need to upgrade the Platinum. I think it's good that they have gone Silver, Gold and Platinum across the board with the charcoal grills.

Any idea when these will be available?

Edit: Amazon is showing the Jumbo Joe in stock now, 69.99 with free shipping.

They also have the Performer Silver for $229.28.

And one more edit for the Performer Gold in blue at 307.25 with free shipping.

And the Platinum at $349 with free shipping.

I like them all so long as the handle bracket remains the same! :)

Someone used the 22" kettle rotisserie with the Jumbo Joe.

C. Bob

The BbqDryRubs site is mine. I am loving the Jumbo Joe.

I used it as a smoker last night just for kicks and it worked great. 4 hours or rock solid temperature control with no fuss. I will get some pics up in the next day or two of some beef short ribs.

The Jumbo Joe is a winner.

I had no idea that was your site when I found the link! It looks like you are really putting it through it's paces. It's good to hear that it has good temperature control. Did you get 4 hours on one load of charcoal or did you have to add some? I look forward to seeing your pics. Also, where did you get yours? I probably won't see one in store here for a few months since winter is coming. I may just order one online.

Here is a video I did grilling some steaks on the Jumbo...peaceful quiet grilling.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=ZcGSFZ6X3X4

Here is my cook log for the beef short ribs: Weather was 60F with light wind.
  • 2:30 – Start
  • 3:00 – 211F at dome
  • 3:30 – 246F at dome. Took a quick peak and since I had it open added three unlit briquettes.
  • 4:45 – 248F at dome. Added ten unlit briquettes.
  • 7:00 – 276F at dome. Ribs looked delicious and I took them off the pit.
  • 7:30 – 275F at dome. 245F at the grate. I was just curious at this point; the ribs were in my belly.
  • 8:00 – 267F at dome. I stirred the coals and restacked with tongs.
  • 8:30 – 257F at dome. All ribs fully consumed.

I ended up buying the 18 inch hinged grate to make adding charcoal easier. If you wanted to do a really long cook then you will need to use lump. With Kingsford the ash was building up fast and there isn't an easy way to clean it out during a cook.

Again, many apologies for the massive pics. Still can't figure out why my flickr photos wont load.

To bad the performer silver and gold does not have the gas ignition system, it is the one think I truly love about my old stainless steel red head performer.
