X2 on that. I really like the versatility of the mak and Yoder setup. Grilling when you need it

^^^^^ This was exactly my issue with it. Too many dedicated zones, which seems to carve the space up into small bits.

My lil' Tex is 418 square inches The Green Mountain Jim Bowie has 658 square inches The Rec Tec 700 has 702 square inches I like the fact that the Rec Tec is made of nearly 100% stainless steel, where the Jim Bowie only comes with a stainless lid. I live in the soggy PNW and that really appeals to me, plus the 40 pound hopper capacity. I never heard of Rec Tec until it was suggested to me last night. Thanks! My budget is ~$1,000 and the Rec Tec is just slightly over, but do-able. The Yoder is really nice but would put me too far over the budget. So the Rec Tec it is! I'll just have to hope the Traeger can put out one last turkey this year since I won't get it until early December. Tony. |

Mak 2star is actually 800 square inches counting the second shelf. But if I were looking for more space I’d skip the MAK and go Pitts and spits Maverick 1250 or for even more space a Maverick 2000, which would also save a few bucks and 100% built in the USA.
If I grilled more than smoked and wanted only 1 unit I’d be looking at Memphis which is the most costly unit (depending on model but I’d really only personally be looking at the pro or elite for what I do) but pretty sweet. In between the 1k - 2k range I’d be looking hard at Kuma Platinum SE, Smokin Brothers - with the built in savannah stoker controller, blazing grill works, Yoder, or rectec. At the 1k budget number smoke daddy or green mountain are all good choices, each have their pluses and minuses, green mountain has a huge following on a couple pellet sites making some of the short comings some run into with easy to find mods to make better. Lastly a couple of us have gotten pretty lucky on Facebook marketplace or on Craigslist finding higher end units that just need some cleanup or just flat were not really being used for a great price, so if your willing to get your hands dirty and have some patience it might be a good way to go. |

Rec Tec RT-700 on order!
It seems to be exactly what I was looking for and in my price range. I was looking for something better than the Traeger and wasn't sure if the GMG's were any better. I'm sold on the larger hopper and the nearly all stainless construction of the RT. My current Traeger is a rust bucket (but it still cooks great food!). Tony. |

I think the RECTEC is a good unit but I’m not a fan of their styling. Those bull horns and the ring and the mixed stainless doesn’t really do it for me.
Of course none of that affects how it cooks

Well since I don't post much, I'll at least put up some pics I've done over the last year of some of the food we put on the table from a couple of small get togethers.
Here's last year's bird. You can see some of the rust on the edge of the Traeger and the creosote buildup inside the cooking chamber. From a party we had a while back... You can see my pulled pork in the middle and off to the left were hot dogs and bavette steak. I had more meat on the grill. From our housewarming party last year... Tony. With the Mak flame zone has anyone grilled without the perforated cover on and just the funnel drip tray installed?
