Backwoods vs LSG cabinet

I have never used either, but it is my understanding that you are looking at opposite ends of the IVC market.

I believe that backwoods are the more affordable and LSG are basically top of the market.

I assume it doesn't make a huge difference in performance and good Q can be made on either. Have to believe that the LSG will last longer.

Not sure where you are located, but it should not take too long for a good used cabinet to come to market. Check Facebook used bbq groups, craigslist, offer up, etc.

It took me less than a month to find a used Humphrey's Pint in So. Cal.

If you had seen both in person you would know the difference.

I chose Backwoods for weight. The G1 Competitor weighs in at about #350, while everything else in it's class was closer to #600+ So if weight could be an issue, there is a difference.

There is a used LSG IVS for sale in Tom Ball for $2,610. It is listed on FB market place as of 2 days ago.

I have a LSG and love it. Definitely heavy. I would have a hard time moving if not for the offroad wheels

Lonestar is Better quality......

My LSG Large IVS is close to three years old, has had two owners and many, many cooks, and still looks almost new. Build quality is awesome, and if you can find one I would highly recommend. Just be patient - I eventually found mine in Houston on Facebook Marketplace with everything I was looking for.

Backwoods is riveted instead of welded too. One will get handed down to your great grandson or granddaughter, the other will get replaced in a few years. I'll let you guess which is which.

The Humphrey's is what you want to look for if you like the Backwoods portability. Backwoods don't show up on the secondhand market that often for a reason. They are relatively close to me but, I just never could 'warm up' to their construction.

If I ever go on vacation to Upstate New York and the Northern Atlantic coast, I'll be hard pressed not to bring back a Humphrey Weekender to East Texas.

A Humphrey Pint might be more compatible with your budget and can be picked up new in the Kansas City area.
