Primitive Pits

Well, you know the lack of paint, on his cooker, is what makes his food good. IMO, this is nothing more, than someone trying to cash in on Franklin's popularity. If most people seen those cookers on CL for those prices, they would laugh. Not saying they aren't any good, but the prices are absurd, for what you are getting.

Yeah, they're not being very shy about it either. "The Franklin"..I mean admiration is one thing, blatantly cashing in on someone else's name is another. As another member said there's some pride in finding it and building it and having it look rough. Buying it like that probably doesn't have the same effect. All of that being said people pay crazy prices for ripped jeans and distressed furniture etc. It's almost like buying street cred in the bbq world.

I wish moberg made a 120 gallon pit - i would be all over it

If steel ever drops he said he'll bring back the patio pits. I think the 250 gal on skis is like 4500 right now. Still better than the insane mill scale prices.

I don't get the whole "no paint" attraction....Each ta their own, but for $4grand I want it ta look like it.

I kind of like the unfinished, industrial look. Of course if I were going to buy a "Texas Style" brisket machine like that it would be from one of the many fine builders in Texas, not some guys from Georgia advertising "Franklin Style".

These are from Sunny Moberg, a fine Texas builder, and I believe the first one below belongs to a fellow brethren. Unfinished 500 gallon tank on a painted trailer, and a 1000 gallon mint green tank.

These smokers and the prices remind me of the distressed jeans with holes in them that kids pay a premium for. Wear them out yourself!

Yeah, that first link is my pit. It rules.
I love the way it looks, and you save $500 by leaving it raw.
Win/win in my book.
I wouldn't sell it for twice the amount I paid.

The first sentence I read had "purist" misspelled. I'm not sure if that adds to or detracts from the legitimacy of a smoker builder ;-)
