Does anyone on the forum have an experience with the Argentine Santa Maria grills and could recommend a manufacturer in the US? I would be interested in a smaller model for home preferably with a brasero build-in. Currently I have been looking at Sunterra and Arizona BBQ Outfitters. Any other choices that are not in the crazy pricing category? I would be looking to spend no more than $2500 plus freight.

Check out Lone Star Grillz.

They were my second option.

Just spitballin' but you might be able to knock off a few bux if you opt out of the brasero. It IS cool but takes up space and If you are not doing super long cooks where you need to constantly replenish your coals, it's just sort of "there" doing nothing.

I made mine and looked hard at adding one- but my cooks on it are no more than a couple of hours- I can burn enough wood into coals under the grate to get my cooks finished.

(but they do have a serious cool factor- not trying to talk you out of it)

^^^^^^

That is one thing I liked about the LSG - their brasero is an add on, and fairly cheap, considering everything else.

Recently someone posted a link to a guy in Louisiana that built many different cookers and had a Santa Maria grill for about $1000+/-. All of the price were dirt cheap and looked like quality builds. I do not think he had a website, just a Facebook page. Seems like someone from the forum was buying a smoker from him. Does anybody remember that post?

I know very little about Santa Maria grills, but Rec Teq has a version of one. Might not be anything like you are looking for, but might worth a look.

I will say I think the Santa Maria grills are very cool.

I have, recommend, and will defend to my death , an Argentine-style Santa Maria grill from Old Pioneer Manufacturing in Buellton, CA.

I've had a Santa Maria grill for a number of years now.
I bought the box and grate from AZ BBQ Outfitters. They build a quality cooker.
I wanted to make a multi-purpose grill out of my Santa Maria so I modified mine to be a:
Rotisserie
Chile Roaster
Side Burner
Caja China pig roaster
I cut the vertical supports off the box and welded them on some angle and bolted it to the top flange of the box.
The rotisserie is unistrut so I can adjust the motor and rod holder to whatever height I need.
The chile roaster straddles the box.
Side burner comes in handy for sides, warming, etc.
I also made a cover for the top so I can roast a small pig and butts, turkeys, etc. like a Caja China roaster.

been having Santa Maria dreams for years now. And the designs that I like most incorporate a substantial windguard like this one does. Seems almost a requirement unless you are doing a built in.

I agree, I ended up fabricating a wind guard on mine that clamps onto the flange and covers the entire back and 6"or so on the sides.

Lose a lot of heat with any kind of wind.

Id like to meet an AzBBQ boothill cooker (grill only) in person. Seems lime the perfect set up like an “enclosed santa maria” for lack of better term.

I *think* you are talking about Allen. He makes Santa Maria grills for around $800 (and up) I believe.

I have watched a lot of his video. He's very talented and seems to be a straight shooter.
I want a Santa Maria and may order one from him in the spring.
