As many of you that own this product know, the power adaptor for it is prone to overheat and short out the transformer windings and the replacement part has been on back order for at least 6 months with an expected delivery date of October ?. After that the part will be discontinued.....Go figure.....The original specs are as follows:
120vac input
12vac output @ 700ma
Because of the wide spread problems with this part I figured it was built using an under rated transformer. I hunted down a replacement from Mouser Electronics with a bit higher current rating and have been testing it. It works great with no over heating.
The replacement is:
120vac input
12v ac output @ 1000ma (or 1amp)
The plug dimensions are 5mm x 2.1mm x 12mm Female
The Mouser Electronics part number is 412-212104
It cost $11.88
Replacement batteries are available at Interstate Battery for $16.00
Furthermore if you didn't already know, the orientation of the transformer can make a difference. They are designed to hang vertically from a wall mounted receptacle or face down on a floor mounted receptacle. The blades of the plug are mounted directly to the transformer housing and mounting in any other position like ( hanging from and extension cord) can put stress on the blades of the plug and cause failure.
