our first kcbs contest
wanted to thank everyone for the warm welcome to the world of competition barbecueing. we had a blast despite the weather in beautiful downtown wamac, il. we really learned alot, like; its very hard to put a garnish in a styrafoam box with a thirty mile an hour crosswind, don't stay up and drink beer till 4am, and don't bring so much stuff among other things. we had a great time. Shane and crew did a great job of putting on the first wmac contest. here are pics of our entries. our team is Rooster's Rib Runners. thanks again, wheels.

A comment right off is the greenery is a bit much on all of these. Otherwise the meats look good. If you hit yours times, then your doing good.
How do you like that cooker?

Very nice for first show!!
Chicken DQ for not having 6 pieces? Ribs look pretty good, maybe a little dark. Pork looks nice, maybe a tad dry, judges like a lil shine. Brisket looks good also but i'd forgo the first 6 slices you have (dry mod),and use the next 6 to 9 slices where the meat is tender and moist. They all make me want to take a bite and thats whats important.... How did you score?

The first one is always the hardest, you realize all of the stuff you should have done when it is too late. You always bring too much and leave the stuff you need at home.
The main thing is that you got out there and did it. How did you score and how many teams entered? Was the event sanctioned? Reason I ask that is you only had two pieces of what I suppose was chicken which by-the-way looked good. Great looking cookers too. It always helps to have great gear. And that drinking all night deal...... get used to it!

Looks like two chicken breasts, each sliced into three pieces to me. If so, I am curious how they scored. Appearance wise the chicken and ribs look real good. I agree the pork and ribs look dry. Good showing for your first time out.

thanks guys, the smoker is awesome. our chicken was sliced lengthwise and we got 11th place, ribs 11th place, pork 12th place and brisket 5th place, finishing 10th overall. the pork and brisket weren't as dry as they looked. the brisket tasted great. we were very happy with our food all things considered. i have been trying not to foil the ribs but they are getting dark at the end of cook time. i couldn't believe how the time at turn in time flies by. thankfully my family was there to help out. the kids had a great time and were so excited about getting our name called (so was i). my 6 year old daughter looked at me and snarled daadddy when they were calling out the winners and said this was the last catagory(brisket) because we had not been called. i told her i was sorry and tried my best. she got the biggest smile when they called us. she took the trophy to school for show and tell. thanks again for all the kind words. we're hooked and can't wait for the mt.vernon,il contest.
