Try like hell every year to offer cook anything but turkey, or at least “help” cook the bird (read: takeover), but most years am unsuccessful... did get to cook it once a few years back and everyone ranted and raved about how good it was, only for things to go back to normal the following year. Bleh! Don’t get me wrong, the company is great, but the food leaves much to be desired!

I hear ya! Sometimes it’s best to just enjoy seeing loved ones and simply put on a smile and say a thank you for the thanksgiving meal all while choking it down... lol.

I would gladly put up with subpar food just to be able to safely gather the family all together for Thanksgiving. Am really starting to feel the effects of this year.

I hear ya! The west coast is pretty locked down right now. Spent a couple of days in CA last week doing some consulting work. Felt very restricted compared to TN. Hope you are able to enjoy what ya have this year buddy! :)

I guess we are traditional:). Turkey and ham for Thanksgiving and will do a tenderloin or a rib roast for Christmas:). Honestly we only cook whole turkeys twice a year on the holidays (Easter) so we look forward to it.

I believe my fiancée's mother is the only one who wanted any turkey and she is the one providing it so what can you do? LOL She usually cooks an entire turkey in the oven but it comes out pretty dry and tasteless so it's not a fan favorite.
We had ribs and a turkey breast last year too but it was a smaller 3 lb turkey breast with no bone and it wasn't done until after we had already ate because it was still partially frozen inside. This years breast is 8 lbs so is quite a bit larger.

My wife, daughter and I will be going to the wife's sister's house for Thanksgiving and it will be traditional. I have always enjoyed leftovers, so I am looking forward to it.
My wife's family has always stuffed the bird, and it is good, but years ago, I asked my mom to write her recipe for cornbread dressing and giblet gravy, and seeing all of this talk makes me remember and want it, so I may attempt it soon, if for no other reason than to stir up memories.

I'm going with the following-
Pulled pork cornbread pudding goat cheese scalloped potatoes and a small turkey breast (just because) and some green beans so we have a veg All cooked in my recently delivered LSG offset. It will be a ridiculous feast and I can't wait to push my cooker to it's limits!! Oh and some white bread... well fancy white bread - those little hawaiian rolls. mmmm |

My favorite thanksgiving dinner was the traditional spread but with prime rib instead of turkey... it was amazing.

Since crab is already cooked when you buy it. Should I warm it on the grill/smoker or steam it? Thoughts?
