Hello there,

I have this ASW Cue Wagon, model 524. Still is a great grill - I believe the top and bottom half are both cast aluminum.
I’d like to restore it and was wondering if there are still some spare parts or donor parts flying around here.

I’ve combed through the web but there is nothing to be found.

Thanks for any insights,
The Bavarian

That is quite a cool little grill you have there, no idea if you will find any parts for it but you may want to take measurements and see if you can find something comparable on some of the other barbecue supply sites. It certainly looks to be in very good condition.

That grill looks to be in fine condition other than some elbow grease, paint and the missing shelf in front. I assume those racks are for a shelf that have nothing attached if I am seeing the pics correctly. Looks fairly similar to a PK grill.

The only other piece that looks like it could be replaced is the charcoal grate. I’d look over grates from a custom grate manufacturer like Killa Grilla and see if they have something that would fit. If not, maybe reach out to them and see if they could custom manufacture the proper size.

You could probably make a front shelf out of some lumber.

Thanks for your comment! I think it is actually cast aluminum or a lighter alloy- both the top and bottom seem to be too light to be iron.

Yes the 2 grates are starting to crumble a bit! I work in Industrial Design and I can do all the 3D-design/3D printing work of the missing pieces and then give that to a foundry for moulding/pouring here in Germany. I was just wondering/hoping that I'd uncover an Atlanta Stove Works junkyard somewhere using the force of The Brethren....

Many thanks Chester!
I find it interesting that in the 70ies they were still using the same lid-handle and built-in thermometer as they used on the 50ies (??) Cue Grill.

Astonishing too is the durability of the cast parts (aluminum, I assume). They have oxidised a bit, but are still solid and there is none of the rust you'll typically find on a cast iron grill or steel (Weber) grill. This thing has been out in the elements year-round since it was bought (used) in 1977.

If it’s cast AL then definitely looks like a PK competitor. Like Chester said, some grates from Killa Grilla (they do custom sizes) and you could be all set. Certainly something different than the usual PK or Weber! I’ll admit, kinda jealous!

Thanks for the insights Rque! I had not known about PK! So, their product is indeed from the same era! And cast Aluminum - yes! Very cool….

Rque I thank you for your enlighting tip: the original was most certainly the 1960ies PK Grill. ASW must’ve been trying to copy their success. Funny again: almost all of the cast aluminum grills of that era must’ve been buying from the same handle supplier.

Thanks for the insight

It’s an interesting grill because the top vents are like the PK360 and not the original PK. I’m sure there are a bunch of AL grills out there that aren’t PK that could use a rescue. It makes sense that others tried to be in the same market, there’s for sure plenty of non-Weber kettle grills out there.

Have you done any restoration on this grill yet? I'd be interested in seeing current pics if so. I just bought one of these off FB Marketplace last weekend and have been trying to find any info on them with no luck aside from this thread. Mine is just like yours but the vents are a different design. Sorry to bring up an old thread

That just made my day! Since I essentially had not found any (commercial) traces of the Cue.Wagon. Thanks alot!

I admit that I haven‘t gotten around to it. I want to do it properly and I need quite a few parts re-cast. I‘ve been told by a few local (I‘m in Germany) casting shops that I need to start with proper dyes for all of those (grates, venting regulator, tray holder)

Found the recipe book that they published for it. Starts out with:

"Now that you have a covered cooker you are ready to enjoy all the benefits of covered charcoal cooking."

And on and on about how "covered charcoal cooking" is so much better than regular charcoal cooking. Blast from the past....

Would you have some pics?[/ (sorry, I was addressing Mitchambers)
